Ride & Event Calendar - We Ride Every Other Week.
(For those wanting to ride every Sunday, Machu Picchu MC rides on the off weekends
and they meet next to Safeway. Their rides leave at 10am.)

All rides begin at 10:30 unless otherwise noted and go most of the day. If we're not there exactly at 10 a.m....wait a while, as our "Tourmaster" is running late, which is more often than not.

Average ride length, including ride to brunch destination: 100-150 miles. Longer rides can be up to 300 miles. Feel free to ride as long as you wish, but do let the tourmaster know if you'll be leaving early, so the ride doesn't have to stop while someone goes and looks for a breakdown machine or other problem.

Route planning: Leave Santa Rosa, take regular route through Bennett Valley and Glen Ellen, down Arnold Drive and turning left on Hwy 12 just west of Schellville. Right turn on Ramal Rd., follow Duhig Rd to where it connects back to Hwy 12 at Domaine Carneros (nice little side-trip that bypasses the construction on 12). Follow Hwy 12 to the stoplight where it connects with 29 south, then south to the Hwy 29 café. After brunch, head north on 29, follow Silverado Trail to Trancas/Hwy 121. Turn right, follow 121 north to 128 Turn right, go east to Winters. For the return route, we follow 128 all the way back to Silverado Trail, up to St. Helena, and then over the hill on St. Helena Rd and return to Santa Rosa via Calistoga Rd. August 2 - August 8, 2010 - Motorcycle camping trip with Ed & Jesse up Northern California coast to Trinidad and Patrick's Point Campground. Camp for 3-4 days. Then ride through Redwoods and back down to Mackerricher State Park. Camp for 3-4 days, and then home. The ride will be a straight shot up the coast about 6 hours in length with a stop for lunch. July 1, 2010 - Canada & Pacific Northwest Ride - Don Rued, one of our regular riders is planning a three week sight-seeing trip up to Canada and is looking for riding companions. Here is his general route:

The specific roads will be determined by weather, etc. I will be leaving 7/1 sometime either late morning or early afternoon. (I have to drive to Manteca to pick up my niece so she can house/pet sit while I am gone.) I plan on going Hwy 29 over Mt. St Helena through Middletown and Lower Lake. then Hwy 53 to Hwy 20 Williams. Then straight up I5 to Vancouver, BC. Take the ferry to Victoria on Vancouver Island.Around the southern tip of Vancouver Island and cut across past Lake Cowichan. (This section may not be paved, I am not sure.) I might tour some more of Vancouver Island. Then take the ferry from Nanaimo back to the mainland. Hwy 99 to 97 to Prince George. (Just after Lillooet, at Pavilion, there is a forest road shortcut to Clinton. This may also be unpaved.) From Prince George, east on 16 to Jasper, Alberta. Hwy 93 past the Columbia Ice Fields. At Saskatchewan River Crossing, Hwy 11 to Nordegg. South on a forestry road to Calgary. (Again this is unpaved. If it is raining, etc, then stay on 93 to Banff and Calgary. I met a rider from Canada and he said not to take this forestry road on weekends because of the wild 4x4 drivers.) After Calgary, it is on to Ft. McCleod to see the Mounties perform on their horses. Have to see Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump. Then through the twisties to Montana. Over Going to the Sun Highway through Glacier Nat'l Park. Hwy 12 to Weiser, Idaho. Hwy 95 to Oregon. Hwy 20 to Burns, Oregon. Hwy 205 to Frenchglen. Then unpaved road to hart Mountain Antelope Refuge. (Nice hot spring at the campground.) To Lakeview, then 140 to Denio, Nevada. (Another hot spring.) Then to Cedarville, Ca via unpaved road. Then 299, I5 and home.

Anyone who wants to come is welcome. I plan on camping when possible. Usually, when I am long distance rides, I only have breakfast and dinner but if anyone decides to come, we can always stop for lunch also.

It is not about how far or fast we can go in a day, but 'what interesting things are there to see?

There are paved roads around the unpaved parts, we would have to coordinate where to meet, etc. The total distance is about 4,000 miles not counting side trips, etc.

Friday thru Sunday, August 7- 9, 2009 - Gualala, CA. Josh Caine has 2 full days worth of riding planned, the promise of beautiful scenery, great roads to ride on, and live music on Saturday night.

As you may notice via the maps, this ride is almost entirely twisty. These routes are DEFINITELY the type of roads that you have to ride your own ride.

OK, here is the deal. I have 2 options lined up for hotels. There is also camping nearby for those that want to go that route.

Option 1: The Gualala Country Inn: (707) 884-4343 Rooms range from $110.00/night and up. I have arranged a 20% discount for us here if you are staying Thur, Fri, Sat. Just mention VROC and that you are with the motorcycle group.

Option 2: The Surf Motel, 39170 South Highway 1, Gualala, CA 95445, 707-884-3571

Option 3: Camping at the Gualala River Redwood Park, (707)884-3533. They are less than 1 miles from the hotels. Max RV length 40'.

Option 4: Camping at the Sonoma County Gualala Campground across the river. Site prices are $20/night. Max reccomended RV length is 33'.

For those that don't know, Gualala is a tiny town on the California coast that is approximately 2 hours from well, anything. We have some of the most gorgeous scenery you have ever seen. Gualala is an extremely popular riding destination during the summer. Come one, come all for a great weekend of friends, rides, and fun!

As you may notice via the maps this is almost entirely twisty, these routes are definitely the type of roads that you have to ride your own ride.

OK, here is the deal, I have 2 options lined up for hotels, there is also camping nearby for those that want to go that route.

Option 1: The Gualala Country Inn: (707)884-4343 Rooms range from $110.00/night and up. I have arranged a 20% discount for us here if you are staying Thur, Fri, Sat. Just mention VROC and that you are with the motorcycle group.

Option 2: The Gualala Hotel, (707)884-1801 (they do not have a website. Rates are as follows, 1 bed common bath $50 2 bed common bath $60 1 bed private bath $80 2 bed private bath $100. They will give us a discount also depending on how many rooms are taken. If 5 rooms or more room prices drop $10 a night.

Option 3: Camping at the Gualala River Redwood Park, (707)884-3533. They are less than 2 miles from the hotels.

For those that don't know, Gualala is a tiny town on the California coast that is approximately 2 hours from well, anything. We have some of the most gorgeous scenery you have ever seen.
